Meet Thomas Hoeg, Technical Game Designer

I’ve loved games for as long as I can remember. My parents were gamers, and I still remember sneaking our brand-new SNES into the house, hooking it up to the tiny black-and-white TV in my bedroom, and falling in love with the magic of immersive, interactive worlds.

That love never faded, and I doubt it ever will. Developing games is completely different from playing them, but honestly, I might enjoy it more (though it’s close). As a Game Developer, I get to help bring ideas to life through code, design, and collaboration. I’ve worked on AAA shooters, MMORPGs, and mobile titles, building AI systems, gameplay scripts, and mechanics that make games feel right.

I didn’t start out planning to make games. I studied Mechanical Engineering and realized I liked learning it more than the work itself. After a brief stop as an Operations Analyst, I took a leap of faith: I independently attended GDC 2007, joined The Guildhall at SMU, and never looked back.

When I’m not building or playing games, you’ll probably find me tweaking the rules of a board game, expanding a collection that’s growing faster than I can play, or deciding which title in my Steam backlog deserves attention next.
